蘇格蘭皇家龍衛隊風笛鼓樂隊最早源于一支小小的風笛樂隊, 1946年由蘇格蘭陸軍某裝甲部隊復員軍人組成并來到蘇格蘭灰騎兵部隊。 樂手們是灰騎兵部隊第一批正規的風笛手，在此之前，灰騎兵部隊只有一些小規模非官方的樂隊，那還是19世紀20年代，曾有一支駐扎在印度能騎馬演奏的樂隊。
國王喬治六世對這支風笛鼓樂隊的到來非常感興趣， 給予他們身著皇家斯圖亞特格子呢的特權, 并親自設計樂隊的制服，就是您現在看到的這張大鼓鼓手身著醒目的插著紅羽毛的白色熊皮的照片。
關于白熊皮，則是源于1894年，俄國沙皇尼古拉二世被授為蘇格蘭皇家灰騎兵名譽團長，為此他向灰騎兵部隊贈送了白熊皮。
現在，蘇格蘭皇家龍衛隊風笛鼓樂隊的風笛手和鼓手身兼坦克兵和音樂家二職，為國效力。
