關(guān)于電影：
查爾斯·萊德作為故事的講述者同時(shí)也是故事的男主角，是牛津大學(xué)一個(gè)不知名學(xué)院的學(xué)生，他與出身豪門(mén)的塞巴斯蒂安·弗萊特在一次偶然的相遇中結(jié)為好友。之后，塞巴斯蒂安將查爾斯帶回他那富麗堂皇的家——布萊茲海德城堡之中，在那里查爾斯見(jiàn)到了塞巴斯蒂安的家人，包括他美麗的妹妹朱麗葉·弗萊特。
　　塞巴斯蒂安的家庭信仰天主教，而在塞巴斯蒂安母親的影響下，宗教對(duì)于他們整個(gè)家族都有著十分巨大的影響力。他們的生活和對(duì)話(huà)中充斥著天主教的內(nèi)容。而這一切都讓查爾斯感到不可思議，因?yàn)閷?duì)于他來(lái)說(shuō)，天主教是既無(wú)實(shí)際內(nèi)容又沒(méi)有高尚品德的東西，而這種信念又進(jìn)一步在塞巴斯蒂安那控制欲強(qiáng)烈的狂熱天主教徒母親身上得到了加強(qiáng)。對(duì)于塞巴斯蒂安來(lái)說(shuō)，宗教也不如酒精那樣能夠給他帶來(lái)超凡的解脫與快樂(lè)。于是，漸漸的塞巴斯蒂安開(kāi)始酗酒成性。最終塞巴斯蒂安離開(kāi)了布萊茲海德城堡，在外漂泊，一走就是兩年。塞巴斯蒂安的離開(kāi)也間接的導(dǎo)致了查爾斯與弗萊特家族的生疏。
　　不過(guò)多年后，查爾斯的命運(yùn)還是再一次與弗萊特家族牽扯到了一起。這一次，他與朱麗葉·弗萊特擦出了愛(ài)情的火花——盡管此時(shí)的朱麗葉已經(jīng)是一個(gè)嫁給一個(gè)加拿大富商的有夫之?huà)D了。查爾斯盤(pán)算著要和自己的妻子離婚，這樣他才能和朱麗葉結(jié)婚。然而，在兄長(zhǎng)的勸服和父親病危的感召之下，朱麗葉越來(lái)越無(wú)法面對(duì)這份不合宗教倫理的愛(ài)，一種深深的負(fù)罪感讓她無(wú)法再想象自己和查爾斯的婚姻。同時(shí)，查爾斯也被朱麗葉父親臨終前涂油禮的厚重莊嚴(yán)所觸動(dòng)，開(kāi)始對(duì)這份愛(ài)產(chǎn)生了動(dòng)搖。
